Attendance

GOOD attendance is very important so that children are given every opportunity to flourish. Attendance is directly linked to attainment and it is essential all our pupils attend school regularly.

The school's attendance target is for every child to achieve a minimum of 95% attendance each term.

If your child's attendance should fall below 90% in any given term, a letter will be issued to notify you of this to ensure you have every opportunity to support attendance rising over the next term.

The Education ( Pupil Registration) Regulations 2006 has been amended and came into force from the 1st September 2013. The amendements have removed reference to family holiday and extended leave. As a result, a request for leave of absence will not be granted for the purpose of a family holiday unless deemed to be "exceptional circumstances". If you wish to seek approval for any request of absence for your child(ren) from school, then you must apply using an 'Application for Term Time Absence from School form' and return this to the Headteacher, at leat four weeks in advance of the request for absence. You should only remove your child(ren) if the absence has been authorised, and notified to you in writing by the School. Any exceptional circumstances must be clearly set out in the written request to the Headteacher who will consider each case upon its merits.

If you then choose to take your child out of school during term time and it is not deemed to be exceptional circumstances and/ or has not been approved by the School, then this will be coded as unauthorised absence and you may be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice.

Becky Woodward is the Attendance Officer at East Wold/North Cockerington C of E Primary School.

The Governement has produced an Attendance guidance document for parents which is available below.

Absence from school

Please telephone by 9.00am if your child is going to be absent from school. We request that where possible, hospital, dental or doctor's appointments are scheduled outside the school day but where not possible, a note or email should be sent to school to inform us. Parents should report to the school office to sign their child out of school, and sign them in on their return to school.

Attendance = Attainment
