Term One's Learning
Hello Kingfishers!
Welcome to Term One! We have lots of exciting learning planned for this term.
In maths we will be focusing on place value and addition and subtraction this term. We will be representing and partitioning numbers to 10, 000 and comparing, ordering and rounding numbers. In addition and subtraction, we will begin by adding and subtracting 1s, 10s, 100s, 1,000s. Times table testing will take place on Mondays.
In Reading we are reading The BFG. We will develop our retrieval skills, inference skills and prediction skills.In writing, we will be studying ‘The Mermaid of Zennor and Leon and the Place Between. We will write letter, guides to Zennor and will write our own fantasy stories.
This term, in PE we will be developing our fitness skills (speed, agility, balance and strength) on Monday and our athletics skills (running, jumping and throwing) on Thursdays with Mr Giles. Our science project this term is Forces and Magnets. We will look at pushes, pulls and twists and investigate friction. We will see which materials are magnetic and think about the uses of magnets. In DT, we are going to be investigating structures and then designing and making pavilions. We will start our computing learning this term, building on our knowledge about online safety. We are then going to investigate how computer networks work. In RE, we will be finding out how people welcome new life into the world. We will find out about Christian and Muslim birth ceremonies. We will also learn about Christian confirmation ceremonies. In geography, we will be finding out about the people and animals who live in Antarctica. We will learn about lines of latitude and longitude. We will also learn about Shackleton's journey to Antarctica. In PSHE, we will be thinking about ‘My healthy self’. We will look at emotions and how they affect our bodies and when to talk to someone about them. In Spanish we will be learning out instruments. We will learn the name of 10 instruments in Spanish and will learn how to say ‘I play’ or ‘I do not play’, these instruments.

Kingfisher Class Information
Just to say a huge hello from Kingfisher Class!
Points to note:
PE:
We have our PE lessons on Mondays and Thursdays this term and your child is required to wear their PE to school.
Water
We ask that your child brings in their water bottle each day with fresh water in it. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day, and we feel that it is important for them to have their own water bottle in school at all times. Clear water bottles allow us to monitor water intake easier. Please make sure that the bottles are clearly named and only contain water.
Book bags
Your child needs to bring their book bag to school each day. It is important not only for reading books and other items which go home, but also for any correspondence that needs to go to parents. Please check book bags regularly for letters and ensure that any learning your child has completed and brought home is taken out.
Time Tables books should also be kept in book bags.
Reading
Reading is a very important part of the curriculum and integral in a child's life. Your child will have a reading for pleasure book that can be changed whenever they have finished reading it. These may be too tricky for them to read themselves but are to be shared at home to support developing a love of reading. These can be changed as often as they like. We ask that the reading books and diaries are kept in book bags and brought into school daily in case reading books need changing. Please record any home reading in their reading diaries. These could also be books that they have read at home.
Times Tables
Times tables will be set on a Monday and tested the following Monday.
