Welcome to Wren Class

Your child has started the next step in their learning journey in Wren Class. This is the final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the children will continue to enjoy learning through play, as well as building upon and further developing their skills across all areas of the EYFS Curriculum.

Points to note:

PE

The children will take part in a range of Physical Development activities throughout each week including PE every Friday afternoon with Miss Sturman. It is helpful, therefore, for your child to have their PE kit in school every day. In terms 2, 4 and 6 we will be doing one swimming session every Monday afternoon at the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth. More details about this will be given nearer the time.

Timetable

In the documents tab you will find our class timetable. Please note that we are flexible in our learning and the timetable may change.

Water

Your child needs their water bottle in school every day. We stop regularly for water breaks and the children are encouraged to finish their bottle throughout the day.

Book bag

We also ask that your child brings their book bag to school everyday to ensure that books and letters can be safely transported home. To prevent damage to books please make sure that water bottles are not carried in book bags.

Reading

We encourage lots of reading at home including bedtime stories and sharing the books sent home from school. As your child develops their reading skills the difficulty of the books sent home will increase. You can find guidance with supporting reading at home at the front of both the Reading Diary and the reading books. Book change days are Tuesdays / Fridays and please make sure you sign the Reading Diary to show that a book is finished.

Phonics

The children will be learning the letter sounds and how to use these for reading and writing. 'Speed Sounds' sheets will be sent home in a special folder for you to practise with your children at home. The sheets will be sent home each time a new sound is learnt.

Handwriting

The children will take part in a range of activities to secure their pencil grip and accuracy of pencil movements. As we learn the letter sounds together the children will learn how to correctly write each one. We will start by learning how to write the letters in our name.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to learning lots of new things together and having fun!

Kind Regards,

Miss White
