The Governors’ Role

The Spire Federation has one Governing Body who make the strategic decisions for East Wold and North Cockerington Church of England Primary Schools. They meet at least once a term as a Full Governing Body. Governors also work on sub-committees: Curriculum and Standards and Finance and Resources.  School Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities for making sure the school is providing the best quality of education. They may only act together: they cannot act individually.

Parents on the Governing Body

Parent Governors are elected for a term of four years and may remain to finish their term of office on the Governing Body after their child leaves the school. Parents are informed when elections are due to take place. One Parent Governor from each school is elected to sit on The Spire Federation Governing Body.

THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE SPIRE FEDERATION OF EAST WOLD AND NORTH COCKERINGTON CE PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The Governors meet as a full group at least once each term to discuss a wide variety of issues connected with the running of the school. They also meet in smaller committee groups on several other occasions throughout the year to report back on their own areas of responsibility. There are two Governors’ committees which look in detail at the following areas of school:

  • Curriculum and Standards
  • Finance and Resources

Their role is to work closely with the staff and parents to ensure that the best provision is available for the children in our care. The Governors represent the County, the Church, the community, the staff, but the largest group represented is the parents, parent governors comprising a third of the Governing Body. Parents governors are elected by parents and carers of pupils registered at the school for a four-year term of office. They may remain in post even if their child leaves the school before the end of their term of office.

Any matters which parents feel they would like to bring to the attention of the Governing Body, or concerns that they wish discussed at the next Governors’ meeting should be addressed in writing to:
